Kara and Tony are a great couple who will be traveling from the Chicago suburbs to celebrate their nuptials this December at Turner Hall. We met up on a warm but breezy spring day to capture a few engagement photographs around the iconic Third Ward and Riverwalk. Since I first met these two at the Harley Davidson Museum, naturally we included a few shots of the couple on their motorcycle outside of another Milwaukee landmark– Colectivo Coffee.
Kim and Dan celebrated their lovely spring wedding at United Methodist Church in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, followed by a reception at Galioto’s Twelve21. The event was an intimate affair, surrounded by a close group of friends and family and set to the acoustic guitars of Evan and Tom Leahy. Guests danced, dined on tapas and enjoyed cupcakes by Delicately Delicious.Read More
February in the Midwest can be counted on for its cold temperatures, but that means it’s the perfect time for an indoor photo shoot! I met up with Chloe and Peter downtown on one such dreary winter morning. This cute couple will be getting married next year at a destination wedding in Puerto Rico, but they needed a few shots for their “Save the Date” cards and I was happy to oblige. We briefly ducked into the Grand Avenue mall Plankinton Arcade. This historic building is a well known fixture in the city, and features lovely architectural details such as spiral staircases that twist in spiral formation around a fountain in the center. The lower level of this mostly empty former commercial center is brightly lit from overhead skylights, making it the perfect spot to duck inside for a few quick photos before heading out into the dreary winter afternoon.Read More
Winter weddings are a rare occasion here in Wisconsin, but that makes them extra special events when they happen. Emily and Marshall celebrated their January nuptials at the Knickerbocker Hotel in downtown Milwaukee with an afternoon ceremony followed by dinner with a few of their close family members and friends. Emily is a Minneapolis transplant originally from Southeastern Wisconsin and Marshall moved to the Midwest to join her from sunny Costa Rica! The Knickerbocker’s Juneau Room offered a beautiful and intimate backdrop for the occasion!Read More
The National Association of Caterers and Event Planners annual Gala, held at the Milwaukee Hilton City Center was an evening of elegance from the age of glamour. Guests decked in fur wraps, glittering evening gowns, coat tails and spats drank and danced the night away to the sounds of a live band under the chandeliers of the Crystal Ballroom. Read More
Hannah and Mat are an awesome couple whose wedding I photographed this spring–they seemed like a natural fit to help with a video shoot at Black Cat Alley on Milwaukee’s east side. The two were incredibly good sports to don their wedding clothes on a cold and windy October afternoon. Below are a few favorites from the day.

On a bright, sunny October afternoon, Penny and Katy celebrated their autumn wedding vows in Rochester, Wisconsin. The two spent the day surrounded by their closest friends and family in this intimate setting with a variety of eclectic personal touches. Penny wore a tartan to celebrate her Scottish heritage, while Katy wore a form fitting lace gown to walk down the aisle. Later, the wedding party dined on Latin American cuisine from their favorite Milwaukee restaurant, Antigua and toasted the happy couple.
I met up with Kim and Bob on an overcast, drizzly day in early October to photography their nuptials at the Silver Spring Golf Club in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. There’s that old saying that rain on a wedding day is good luck. If nothing else, it created some foggy, atmospheric photos with even lighting– the perfect recipe for beautiful wedding portraits.
The rainy day didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. After a short (covered) rooftop ceremony overlooking the rolling hills of Waukesha County, the couple and their bridal party danced –or should I say “Rickrolled” down the aisle to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” The rain let up just in time for a few photos over looking the verdant course, and since the weather was less than stellar, we didn’t have to look out for any flying golf balls!
Later, the party celebrated, toasted and danced long into the evening.
One of my favorite spots in Milwaukee to photograph weddings– or just attend events, period–is Turner Hall Ballroom on Milwaukee’s Old World Third Street downtown. This sweeping, two story venue offers dramatic views and crumbling, rustic elegance in a historic setting. The room is pretty cool to begin with, but throw in a few strings of bulbs and a little uplighting, and the place becomes incredible.
I met up with Lara and Mark to photograph their September Turner Hall wedding. The dressing rooms and upstairs lounge area are a photographer’s dream– covered with old wood work, peeling paint and tons of amazing textures everywhere. It’s a perfectly contrasting backdrop for a glamorous wedding party!
Mark is a fan of classic cars, and wanted to incorporate a few shots of his gold Trans Am into the photos. We set up photos with the couple and their car parked in front of the building exterior, and even managed to get a few from the backseat!
After a candle lit afternoon ceremony, we climbed to the attic and the roof for a few more photos. One of the coolest and most unusual backdrops that we encountered was a pile of antique wooden chairs piled high in an empty attic space.
The newlyweds partied with friends and family into the night, tearing up the ballroom dance floor with some energetic dance moves and a circle dance to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.” It was truly a night to remember!
